Kotlin in Simple Terms
Kotlin is a general-purpose programming language designed to interoperate fully with Java. Kotlin is officially supported by Google for mobile development on Android and, in 2019, Google announced that the Kotlin programming language is now its preferred language for Android app developers.
Unveiled in 2011, Kotlin focuses almost wholly on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), but also compiles to JavaScript or native code if needed. It aimed to improve readability of code, and provide a simpler way to extend Android SDK classes to accelerate development. Kotlin has been announced as the third official Android development language along with Java and C++.
Untold uses Kotlin in Android mobile application development. Most recently, our Android app for an enterprise communications tool leveraged the power of Kotlin to connect a globally distributed workforce, and we anticipate many more Kotlin projects in our future.
