When a non-governmental organization committed to promoting lasting peace with justice approached Untold, the mission was clear: support their team and their missions around the world and be the dynamic digital ally they need.
Untold has been maintaining and modifying their primary web property for years, and with it pushing the very limits of Drupal's administrative ability to deliver highly-customizable landing and informational pages. Many of those experiments on the main site eventually trickled out into an ecosystem of microsites and larger, individual campaigns that require unique capabilities based on geography, device, or even individual humanitarian causes.
In spring 2017, the group wanted to present first-hand written and recorded accounts of daily life behind the Gaza blockade. Untold quickly built a site that offers meaningful and sharable stories across a wide range of issues, while guiding visitors on how to take individual action to help. In addition to presenting a customizable administration and content interface, the site is extremely simple and sharable by design, with a strong emphasis on mobile accessibility.
By summer 2018, Untold was asked to create a central web presence for the group’s traveling exhibition on the effectiveness of nonviolence. This website needed to be simple while driving demand and attendance across the United States. The Untold team quickly produced a site that helped people find the dates and locations of the exhibitions nearest them. It also informed interest parties with imagery, video, and testimonials conveying what to expect at said exhibitions.
In late 2018, 2,000 child migrants were locked up in the Homestead Detention Center in Florida. Untold rapidly delivered a website that could drive people to action on this issue. The Untold team quickly spun up a site with embedded video and map integration so people could find events in their area to protest.
All of these projects required a large amount of highly-customizable content. Untold leveraged a few homemade utilities, the Panels in-place-editor interface, and a number of stylized-but-configurable components that allowed administrators to build reusable, on-brand landing pages for any occasion. Additional complex application features – including the ability to perform real-time chat on live-streamed conference calls, multilingual landing pages and petitions, and highly configurable media display options – were thrown in as well.
It’s been a privilege to work with a service- and peace-minded organization with a longstanding and impactful history, and the Untold team looks forward to helping our partners for years to come.
