One of the world’s most storied research laboratories engaged Untold to celebrate the centennial of the birth of a mathematician, electrical engineer, and cryptographer that pioneered scientific discoveries for nearly 100 years.
Experiential Angular Framework
The laboratory team believed this man's achievements required a similarly unique celebration. They decided to build a wholly innovative, engrossing web adventure. No common grid, layout, or design system could do justice to one of the most famous mathematicians of the modern era.
Though this commemoration was a web project, its scope became more experiential than expected. Within the laboratory headquarters, kiosks would run this web app giving employees and visitors an understanding of this scientific achievement and legacy. The Upswell and Untold teams strategized the most impactful implementation of this evergreen web experience and temporary experiential installation.
Variable Content Visualization
In order to translate nearly 100 years of transformational research, Untold was provided archival photos, full text documents, and video of some of the most important periods in the lab’s storied history. Pairing these varied content types with ambitious, unique visual interactive design required abstract layout work with complex animations.
Executing on this presented challenges. The final deliverable was a single, long-form scrolling webpage that included a large number of distinctive components. Each component required multifaceted interactions and media types including still images and video, historical documents, parallax effects, custom carousels and wipes, image masking, and a flexible, custom grid system.
The product was ultimately showcased during the celebration and lived up to its billing. Afterwards, the web experience received an award for design and functionality. With a rapid turnaround of 5 week from start to finish, the Untold team is especially proud to have helped to build this monument to one of the greatest thinkers in modern history.
